Alice Delétoille

Alice’s fashion adventure started at 16 when her grandmother gave her a sewing machine. A few years later, Alice decided to pay tribute to her and gave her own brand the family name of the woman who made her find her vocation: Delétoille.

Who are you?

When I got my Bachelor in Art, I was torn between my love for art and my enthusiasm for travelling. Passionate by African cultures, I enrolled in INALCO (University of Oriental Languages and Civilizations). To write my thesis, I went to Mali, where I learnt how to make suits. I decided to open my first workshop in Bamako, when I created my first three collections.

Why did you choose to go into fashion?
My passion for fashion started at 16 when my grandmother gave my her first sewing machine. I decided to pay tribute to her and named my brand after her family name : Delétoille.

Could you describe to us your creative universe?
I think clothes have to be pleasant for the eyes and all the other senses. Of course, beauty and elegance are important, but so is the feelings you get when you wear something. My creations aim to be aesthetic and comfortable.

What are your sources of inspiration?
My main inspiration is are the 20’s and 50’s. I love their glamorous universe, made of lovely drapery and fluid materials. I also like a bit of boyish effect, thanks to structured cuts that are more masculine.

Could you tell us a couple words about your collaboration with MonDéfilé?
MonDéfilé awakened my interest when they proposed me to collaborate around the theme “Model student”. This theme perfectly fits my retro and boyish universe, so I naturally proposed the “Chloé” dress. Thanks to MonDéfilé, I can reach a larger target, which makes me really happy.

If you had to choose only one piece (your favorite one, the one you are the most proud of) amongst all of your collections, which one would it be?
It is really hard for me to pick only one, but I have to admit I am very proud of the “Freez” Coat. You can wear it in the manner of officers or like a women adjusted suit. As it is made in wool and lined in silk, it is very warm and soft. With its very comfortable cut, I personally think it is a winter must have!
