Monsieur Simone

As her grandmother was a professional seamstress, Laura grew up surrounded by needles, thread, fabrics, etc. Creating her own brand was evidence, so she started Monsieur Simone in 2012.

Who are you?

I have been travelling around the world since my childhood. I have been to Asia, Africa, North America, and Europe. After three years studying fashion design and modeling at the Parisian fashion school ESMOD, I got a communication degree at the EFAP (a press attaché school) and a Bachelor of Communication Arts at the New York Institut of Technology. Then, I spent a year in New York where I did an internship with Layla Demay when she was writing Les Pintades, which allowed me to discover the New York culinary world and to meet “Celebrity Chefs”. When I came back to Paris, I got different job as a press attaché in the gastronomy world. But I felt the need to be independent and found my way back to my first love: fashion. This is how I naturally created my own jewellery brand, Monsieur Simone, in January 2012.

Why did you choose to go into fashion?
My grandmother was a seamstress, and I spent a lot of time with her when I was a kid. I have a lot of childhood memories that include needles, thread, fabrics and materials. They represent unique moments between my grandmother and me. Fashion is also a good way for me to express myself.

Could you describe to us your creative universe?
Every single Monsieur Simone item is unique and handmade. It is a perfect blend between raw chains, soft cotton thread and soft leather. Monsieur Simone is an opposition. It is manly, raw, metallic, feminine, sweet, and all of this in a perfect harmony.

What are your sources of inspiration?
My inspiration comes from all the travelling I do. I am inspired by the colors you can find on different markets around the world, all the different cultures and traditions, etc. I love mixing materials.

Could you tell us a couple words about your collaboration with MonDéfilé?
I was really glad when MonDéfilé contacted me to create a bracelet. MonDéfilé provides visibility and highlights young designers only, which is rare. Moreover, they let us create a new product that sticks to our universe. The team really takes an interest in their young designers. They are really supportive, and I thank them a lot for that.

If you were to be a piece of clothing or an accessory, what would you be?
I would be a jewel, to be able to brighten up or transform any look. I like to wear jeans with a plain white tee. And when you add a jewel like a necklace to this look, it is instantaneously less casual.
