Delphine Josse is a young self-taught designer. "My goal is to reinvent the dress, making it simple and perfectly cut". And it is made in France.

Who are you?

I am a self taught designer. When I was studying art, I had to create costume and fabric design objects. This is how I started creating actual clothes for my friends and me. I like to think that I can materialize everything I think of.

Why did you choose to go into fashion?
I was given my first sewing machine when I was a teenager. The first thing I made thanks to it was a satin blue dress. I learnt how to sew thanks to books and my entourage.

Could you describe to us your creative universe?
« Less is more » and I don’t like unnecessary details. Every single line or cut has utility and makes sense. I think about the color of a piece before I start thinking about its shape, and most of the time, it is very simple because I even prefer to focus on the details first. The “7Robes” woman has to look modern and relaxed in any circumstances: at work, on holiday, during a romantic diner, a girls’ night out, a preview night, a wedding or on the red carpet! She is active, confident, seductive, and charismatic.

What are your sources of inspiration?
I am inspired by anything: a picture, a painting, a movie, women I admire, etc. Every dress I create has the name of someone inspiring for me: the dancers Marie-Claude Pietragalla and Pina Bausch, Inès de la Fressange or Lana Del Rey. They are all unique, creative and seductive. My muse is Julie Gayet, a very glamorous actress and producer. She is the one who made me put some red into my creations.

Could you tell us a couple words about your collaboration with MonDéfilé?
Thanks to MonDéfilé.com, I can create exclusive pieces without any constraint!

If you had to choose only one piece (your favorite one, the one you are the most proud of) amongst all of your collections, which one would it be?
The one Julie Gayet was wearing when she climbed the steps of the Festival de Cannes 2012: the sheath dress “31”, red and irresistible.
