Bleu Tango

Bleu Tango's young designer combines her inspirations from nature by drawing her own prints with watercolors and the practical side of clothing for women who have long lasting days.

Who are you?

My name is Lou, I created Bleu Tango brand a year and a half ago. I am 26 years old and graduated from a textile designdiploma at Duperré School which allows me  to create all of Bleu Tango designs based on my watercolors, cuttings and illustrations. I then decided to specialize in cutting and pattern making at Chambre Syndicale de la Couture in Paris which gave me the ability to create all of my brand products. Everyday I jump on my bike, going straight to my shop in Montmartre, located 47 rue d'Orsel. Apart from biking, my hobbies are theatre, contemporary dance, painting, cinema and nature !

Why did you choose to go into fashion ?

When I was a child, I always wanted to disguise myself when going to school. Obviously my mother tried to stop me… I became designer to make up for this huge disappointment  (Hello Dr Freud!)… I have always been passionate about fashion, couture – that I started early with my grandma – disguise and magazines (my father used to bring back Elle magazine at home when I was a child!)

I also chose fashion because I wanted to work in a creative world, but I didn’t want to be alone in my own artist’s workshop. I just desired to discover the world, work in teams with suppliers, have a daily contact with my customers.

Could you describe to us your creative universe ?

Bleu Tango is a joyful brand, which put colors in women’s lives thanks to our exclusive patterns and colors! We create clothes that easily adapt to long lasting days as they are all reversible: very useful for changing styles within the day, come in and out of meetings, go out with your boyfriend… !

What are your sources of inspiration ?

My inspirations mainly come from nature: I create Clouds or Fishs patterns in watercolors, I inspire myself from Butterfly wings, pictures of marble… I draw undergrowth covered by lichen, waterfalls, maple leaves or shirts – aviary of exotic birds! I’m a serial designer of Jungle patterns, for example: we launched our fourth jungle pattern this winter. It’s interesting to offer a range of products taken from one inspiration while you ask yourself each season : « How would be the jungle in this season and where am I going to take you this season ? »

Next to it, there is poetry which has an important place in Bleu Tango. Fish’s patterns were scrattered by Japanese Haïkus, our Write patterns gave a large place to Apollinaire’s poems… All our composition labels (the little label that you cut right away, you know ? thie one where it’s written all cleaning instructions) are inspired by poems and are different on each garment.

How do you manufacture your pieces ?

I give priority to confection and top of the range material: our fabrics are Italian, French, Spanish and English, from the best suppliers or from haute couture houses fabrics. Patterns are printed in Italy or Tunisia, and clothes manufacturing is made in the North of France, Poland near from Cracovia, and Paris high end manufacturers. But all of it for affordable prices, that’s what I’m fighting for ! We also propose a made to measure service for all of our garments.

Could you tell us a couple words about your collaboration with MonDéfilé ?

I’am really enthousiastic to work with MonDéfilé, I hope it’s the beginning of a long collaboration! I was really impressed by Sarah (MonDéfilé co-founder and collection director) welcoming attitude, by her kindness and consideration! I love so much MonDéfilé commitment in discovering young designers, it’s important for us to have this kind of visibility and help.

If you were to be a piece of clothing or an accessory, what would you be ?

A reversible jacket of course !
